Game Purchases Under Consideration
Posted by Rob Herman at June 5th, 2007
A categorized list of games I might buy in the nearish future. Probably a couple at the Friendly Local Gaming Store and perhaps a couple at Origins.
Very Probable
- Ingenious — Don’t know what I’m waiting for.
- Lost Cities — Would be easier if it didn’t scream “Play me with an ordinary deck of cards for $1.50 instead!”
Would If Friends Didn’t Have Them
- Puerto Rico — No particular comment about any of these games. There’s no surprises here and if they weren’t readily available I’d quickly find and buy them.
- Taj Mahal
- Power Grid
- El Grande
Considering Evaluation/Purchase
- Princes of Florence — Looks like a really solid resource/economic development game.
- Coloretto — Supposed to be a lot of fun and also very light and quick. This is an important niche I don’t really have covered right now.
- Acquire — It keeps coming up.
- Web of Power / China — The rules look neat and I can see where the strategy comes from.
Might Try as Speculation
- Twilight Struggle - Looks long but reasonably weighted; attractive theme and supposedly neat play.
- Caylus — Heavier than I usually go for but seems popular.
Notable Absences
- Tigris & Euphrates — Available from friends, but I’m not as thrilled by it as others. I’ll have to give it a few more tries.
- Tikal — Way too much waiting around to be worth the effort.
- Ticket to Ride — Not bad, but in almost any situation I’d prefer Settlers, Ra, or Thurn & Taxis.
- Samurai — My Knizia love is well-known (just look above) but this one doesn’t really do it for me
